The glowing phenomenon of the aurora borealis may seem mystical in their very unpredictability (you can never be sure when or where they will appear, afterall), but scientists are able to forecast the peak viewing cycles of the lights, and according to NOAA, the solar activity being generated now is going to peak between January and October 2024. Check out the Aurora Forecast Tools at Aurora Hunter, by Todd Salat, which will give you a 27-day outlook for best viewing.

November through February is the best time to view the northern lights in the northern polar latitudes, as these are the nights of best darkness in them, which is necessary to discern the lights. It does not have to be cold, just dark and clear.
